A reflection on how we create our lives, and what we might be missing
Every single day, we create.
We create our morning — whether it begins in peace or in a rush to find the other shoe. We create our meals, our schedules, our responses to the email that arrives at exactly the wrong moment. At work, we create solutions, presentations, conversations, outcomes. At home, we create the atmosphere our families breathe in.
We are, every one of us, constantly creating.
But here’s the question worth pausing on — and maybe smiling at a little, because most of us will recognize ourselves in it:
How often do we stop and ask for wisdom before we create?
Not after things go sideways. Not when we’re already three decisions deep into something that isn’t working. But before — in that quiet space where the better question lives.
Most of us don’t. We’re moving too fast. The to-do list is real, the pressures are real, the world is genuinely loud right now. And so we create from habit, from urgency, from what worked last time, or honestly, from whatever mood we woke up in. Sound familiar?
The Wisdom We Earn
There is a wisdom that comes through living. Through the small daily moments — the conversation that didn’t go the way you planned, the choice that taught you something about yourself you weren’t expecting to learn. Through the harder knocks too — the loss, the failure, the season of life that brought you to your knees before it brought you back to yourself.
This earned wisdom is real and it is precious. It grows slowly, the way trees grow — you don’t always see it happening, but one day you look back and realize how far the roots have gone. The person you are today, with the patience you’ve developed, the perspective you’ve gained, the things you no longer let derail you — that is wisdom at work. Hard-won. Yours.
And it keeps growing. Every experience, even the ones you’d rather not repeat, adds another layer. The difficult boss. The relationship that ended painfully. The money crisis that taught you what you were truly made of. The moment you looked in the mirror and finally — finally — decided to stop being so hard on yourself.
These are not failures. They are the curriculum.
But There’s Another Kind
Here’s where it gets interesting.
Because alongside the wisdom we earn: there exists a wisdom we can receive, something I call the Wise Divine.
This is not a wisdom that comes from having lived enough years or learned enough lessons. It doesn’t require a degree, a perfect track record, or even a particularly good day. It is available to every single one of us, in any moment, when we choose to open to it.
The Wise Divine is the living wisdom of the Universe itself: that quiet, loving intelligence that knows not just what works, but what is true. What brings wholeness. What serves not just this moment, but all concerned, seen and unseen, now and into the future.
When we invite this wisdom into our creating: our decisions, our relationships, our daily schedules, even our meals, something shifts. The quality of what we create changes. Not always dramatically. Sometimes it’s simply a pause that saves us from a costly mistake. A gentle knowing that says wait when everything else is saying go. A clarity that arrives not from thinking harder, but from opening wider.
This is the gift that has no limits. Only an open heart and a willing mind are required.
What This Looks Like in Real Life
Let’s be honest about what we’re actually navigating right now.
People are struggling to survive: financially, emotionally, sometimes physically. The cost of everything has risen, and for many, the question isn’t “how do I thrive?” but simply “how do I get through this week?” That is real, and it deserves to be named.
Mental and emotional imbalance is everywhere: not as weakness, but as the entirely understandable response to a world moving faster than our nervous systems were designed to handle. Anxiety, depression, disconnection: these aren’t character flaws. They are signals. And wisdom, both the kind we earn and the kind we receive, has something profound to offer them.
Money, that most charged of topics: reveals everything about where we are in our relationship with ourselves. Our fears live there. Our old stories live there. And our healing shows up there too, often in the most surprising ways, like finding exactly what you need at exactly the right moment, for exactly the right price, when you least expected it.
And then there’s the great ongoing human project of learning to accept ourselves and each other. In a world where division has become almost recreational, where it’s easier than ever to decide someone is simply wrong and move on: wisdom asks something harder. It asks us to stay curious. To see the veil another person is moving through, rather than simply reacting to where they are in it.
The Question Worth Asking Today
So here we are, creating again. Another day, another set of decisions, another chance to either move from habit or move from wisdom.
The good news, and it genuinely is good news: is that both kinds of wisdom are available to you right now. The wisdom you’ve already earned is in you, deeper than you probably give yourself credit for. And the Wise Divine is not somewhere far away, waiting for you to become worthy of it. It is as close as a sincere question, an open heart, and a moment of genuine stillness.
Even thirty seconds before you respond to that email.
Even one breath before you say the thing you’ll wish you hadn’t.
Even a quiet ‘what would truly serve here creating balance’ before you decide.
That’s not magic. That’s wisdom in practice. And over time, it changes everything: your days, your relationships, your relationship with money, your relationship with yourself, and quietly, the world you contribute to just by living.
